About

The Girl Plays Jazz Project is dedicated to supporting and promoting girls and young women in jazz.

We offer one day workshops to introduce girls to jazz, blues, funk, blues and world music improvisation, and to develop girls and young women as jazz musicians.

We invite different top level bands in to host masterclasses for the girls – these have included a Cuban big band workshop led by Sara McGuiness and Jimmy Hernandez, a Samba workshop led by the Brazilian drummer Cyro Zuzi, a gypsy jazz day led by La Bouche Manouche featuring Irene Serra.

We also seek our performance and development opportunities for the girls. In March 2019 and 2020 we were delighted to perform at Ronnie Scott’s. In May 2019 we performed at the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development’s Policy Awards.  The girls have played at the Vortex, Karamel and the Old Ford Jazz Club as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival in 2019, 2021 and 2022.  We have recently collaborated with the Royal Academy’s Jazz Club.

Please see our workshops page for details of our forthcoming courses, or get in touch with us for more info.

We are a registered community interest company:
