We are SO proud of these awesome musicians and the fab house band that supports them.
We are delighted to announce our first Masterclass with the brilliant Sara McGuiness on 1 December 2018 at the New Unity Hall, Upper Street. We are very lucky to have Sara run an Afro Cuban masterclass for the girls. This is a brilliant opportunity for the girls to learn from a top level professional.
Sara McGuinness combines a career as a musician and educator. She is an established figure on the UK Latin Music scene, winning the 2018 UK Lukas Award ‘Musician of the Year’. Her band, Grupo Lokito, the subject of her practice based research into the dynamic relationship between Cuban and Congolese music, won the UK Lukas Award ‘Tropical Act of the Year’ in 2017. She also leads Cuban band Sarabanda and a community based Cuban Big Band Orquesta Estelar. Sara teaches an annual Cuban Music Course in Havana, Cuba and a Cuban Music Summer School in London. Sara teaches Performance and Recording at the London College of Music and the School of Oriental and African Studies.
We are so delighted to announce that Girl Plays Jazz Project has been approved as a community interest company by Companies House. #womeninjazz
